A Rose wine, coming soon from Son Prim Winery Mallorca

Son Prim winery in Sencelles Mallorca has recently announced that it intends to produce its first rose wine this coming year.

Son Prim has so far produce some excellent wines, but only white and red wines so far, so it is very exciting that they have decided to produce a rosé and we are sure it will be of the highest quality.

Son Prim announced that the wine will be made from one local and one foreign variety of grape and that they hope to produce a wine which is full of character and easy to drink – hopefully in time for next summer! Look out for more news like this on our Facebook page!

New Awards for Son Prim Winery

Son Prim Winery, located in Sencelles, Mallorca is no stranger to awards and prizes. Its wines have been consistently receiving awards since 2005, in Spain, Brussels, Switzerland and Germany.

This year, it seems, will be no exception, and the winery has already been awarded two prestigious awards and a very significant mention in Spain’s most well known wine guide.

Son Prims Vintage 2008 wine, which is not even on sale yet, has been awarded a Gold Medal to both Son Prim CUP 2008 and Son Prim Cabernet 2008 during The Berliner Wine Trophy 2011.

The wine estate’s red wines also come highly recommended and have been mentioned in the Spanish wine guide, Guía Peñín de los Vinos de España.

Forbidden Mallorca Wines

Slow Food Illes Balears is working with several Mallorca wineries to recover and launch two native Mallorcan grape varieties which are currently commercially  ’forbidden’. The forbidden varieties are Gorgollasa and Giro Blanc. The wine makers currently working with slow food and producing wines using these varieties are Bodegas Ribas in Consell, Vins Toni Gelabert in Manacor and Can Majoral in Algaida.

There was a recent presentation in collaboration with a local chef, Andreu Genestra Garcia, during which industry professionals were able to try these ‘forbidden wines‘.
