BBQs are back! at Maxime…

We all loved them last year… the Friday night barbecues at Maxime, with their great value buffet, huge grill manned by Chef Maxime, enormous selection of delectable desserts.. not to mention the stunning views over the golf course towards Portocolom and the relaxing live music… and now they are back!

The format is exactly the same as last year, the event kicks off from 19.30 every Friday evening throughout the summer.
The price is €29,50 per person and includes a buffet of salads and starters, a buffet of meats and hot side dishes, and a gorgeous dessert buffet. (drinks are separate but tax is included).

We took a video of one of the barbeques last year, so have a look!

Wherever you are on the island it is well worth going to Maxime on a Friday, we are sure you will not be disappointed!

40 years of Bens d’Avall

Bens d’Avall Restaurant, which has become something of a ‘mecca’ for New-Balearic cuisine, an idea conceived by its Chef Benet Vicens, a self confessed chef, restauranteur and farmer, is celebrating its 40th birthday this month. An achievement in itself.  How many restaurants can claim to have been in business for 40 years!?

So it is with great pleasure that we wish this stunning restaurant on the coast of Deià a very happy birthday!

At the beginning of the year, Benet Vicens announced his commitment to use only local produce, a further indication of his firm belief in local agriculture and the wealth of natural ingredients available in the Balearics.

Now, the restaurant which was opened by his parents, celebrates 40 years of business and the fact that it is one of the most well known and respected of restaurants serving cuisine based on Mallorcan produce and authentic Mallorcan recipes.

Benet and his wife, Catalina, have prepared something very special to mark the occasion: Bens d’Avall Birthday Celebrations.

L’Arca den Peter Restaurant – New Location

L’Arca den Peter Restaurant in the old town of Alcudia, in the north of Majorca, has recently moved location. It is still within the walls of the emblematic Alcudia old city, but is now much nearer to the town hall, at Plaza Verduras, the square which years ago used to be home to a weekly vegetable market.

The move has meant that the proud owners of this succesful Alcudia eatery have been able to update the decor of the restaurant, from rustic to modern with crisp clean lines, but they have maintained the same purple/lilac colour scheme so representative of L’Arca den Peter, which really lends it a romantic and sophisticated feel.

Guests to the new restaurant will also be able to enjoy a larger terrace, which is romantically lit in the evenings. The menu at L’Arca den Peter has remained largely unchanged, so regulars should be more than happy with this restaurant’s new look!

Huevos estrellados by Ivan Gonzalez Medina at Es Mercat

Casa Lucio Style Eggs

One of the newest restaurants to be profiled by SkyBlue Mallorca is Es Mercat in Santa Catalina, in Palma. Es Mercat offers market cuisine using fresh seasonal produce sourced at the local Santa Catalina market, and the menu changes according to what produce in season. But there is one dish which is always on the menu…

Huevos estrellados.

The Chef, the talented Ivan Gonzalez Medina worked at one of Madrid’s best known restaurants, Casa Lucio, for over two years. One of Casa Lucio’s star dishes is Huevos Estrellados, which is literally eggs fried and mixed with fresh chips.

When Ivan opened his own restaurant here in Mallorca, in the popular and trendy neighborhood of Santa Catalina, he decided to serve his own version of the dish, ‘huevos estrellados Casa Lucio’. Look for it on the menu as the ‘Classic Egg dish, Casa Lucio style’.

He serves it as is, or with added ingredients of sobrassada or foie, and they are all quite simply, delicious!

Bistro Mar Restaurant

Another new restaurant on SkyBlue Mallorca’s Food & Wine Guide: Bistro Mar Restaurant in the AlcudiaMar marina in Alcudia.

This restaurant is famous for its paella –  which is always great to know! The restaurant specialises in fresh fish dishes too, although the menu covers mosts things, meats, other rice dishes and a selection of snacks. The kitchen is open all day every day (except when the restaurant closes in the winter) making it the ideal place for everything from breakfast in the morning, to a mid afternoon ice cream or a full-on elegant meal in the evening.

Bistro Mar is a very well established restaurant in the area, run by brothers Alejandro and Fernando. Their father opened the first ever restaurant in the marina some 40 years ago, and his sons have followed in his footsteps and continue to welcome customers, both local and tourists, to their friendly establishment.
