An organic garden at La Residencia

The La Residencia hotel (a beautiful hotel in Deia, Mallorca) has recently extended its garden next to the fabulous El Olivo Restaurant to incorporate a fully functional organic garden.

The garden has already produced some fabulous organic vegetables this season and these have been incorporated into the cooking at the restaurant run by chef Guillermo Mendez.

‘Using the best quality, fresh, local produce at all times is our aim and as our own production increases we can reduce what we have to source from elsewhere.’

So be sure to enjoy some fresh seasonal produce at La Residencia soon!

What are your plans for Halloween this year? As ever, some of Mallorca’s Restaurants have prepared special themed dinners for this most terrorific of evenings.

The Flor de Sal Restaurant at Camp de Mar has put together a particularly interesting menu. A delicious 3 course menu at 25 euros per person.

This is the menu:

Iberian pork terrine with pistacho and pineapple and pumpkin chutney

Salmon cooked in miso, honey and ginger with warm potato salad, rocket and bacon

OR Crisy duck with hoisin sauce topped with a raspberry and balsamic vinegar fried ice cream

Warm ‘gofio’ cream with vanilla ice cream and crispy chocolate

Every week, the Tasca de Blanquerna restaurant in Calle Blanquerna, Palma prepares a fresh seasonal menu at a very competitive price.

Enjoy the best in Spanish regional cuisine for 14 euros plus Iva (3 course menu including dessert).

Local Produce – Producte Local

The local government has recently launched a great new website with information on local produce from the Balearic Islands, how it is promoting it and where you can get it. The campaign is branded quite simply as ‘Producte Local‘ or ‘local produce’ in mallorquín.

This ‘producte local’ label will help you identify local produce when shopping at markets, super markets and shops. The label encompasses everything from fruits and vegetables to fish.

The new website also provides you with information about which products are in season so you can shop seasonally.

Where can I buy products from Menorca

Menorca, Mallorca’s neighbouring island is also a great producer of fine food products. The island produces some very high quality products which are often surprisingly different to what we can get here in Majorca.

Pop down to the Botigueta de Sant Miquel (a gourmet shop on Calle Sant Miquel in Palma) for a full selection of Menorquin products.

You will find everything from the typical Mahon-Menorca cheese to jams and preserves and even typical Menorcan pastries.

19 wines from the Balearics win prizes at Mundus Vini 2010

The Mundus Vini Wine Competition takes place every year in Germany. The prizes for this year-s edition have just been announced and 19 different wines made in the Balearics have come away with prizes.

Wines awarded include José L. Ferrer Crianza 2007, Stairway to Heaven cabernet 2007 (Castell Miquel), Llàgrima de Sang 2006 (Bodegues Macià Batle) and E-Binigrau 2009 (Binigrau Vins i Vinyes).

Food and Wine Matchings at Cases de Son Barbassa

Every Saturday during October 2010, there are food and wine matchings taking place at Cases de Son Barbassa in Capdepera Mallorca.

The events feature a four course meal at 31 euros per person carefully matched with wines from a Mallorca winery.

The wineries taking part include Binigrau, Son Prim, Miquel Olive and Finca Son Bordils.

Thursdays during Winter at Mood Beach

Mood Beach has just launched a series of events which will keep you busy every Thurday during the winter.

The 2nd Thursday of every month (starting with today the 14th of October) a new ‘Connect’ networking group will meet at Mood in the evening for a set menu and lots of business chatter.

The 3rd Thursday of every month (starting with the 21st of October) A new gourmet club will take place at Mood for you to discover and enjoy some gourmet delights.

The 4th Thursday of every month (starting with the 28th of October) A new Global menu. The team at Mood prepares a delicious tasting menu based on a different country’s cuisine.

Wine Matching at La Riba Restaurant

This Friday the 15th of October there is another wine matching dinner coming up at La Riba Restaurant in La Lonja, Palma de Mallorca.

The event has been organised with the collaboration of Catavinos wine centre and will feature a four course meal which will be careful matched with wines by Macia Batle winery in Binissalem. The dinner and wine tasting will be led by Daniel Arias, one of Mallorca’s top sommeliers.

On the 7th of October 2010 the 2010 edition of TaPalma 2010 begins. Palma’s popular Tapas festival will this year last until the 11th of October and is separated into five ‘Tapas routes’ across the city.

This is Palma’s most dynamic food festival and allows visitors to walk through the city stopping at participating restaurants to try tapas dishes at very affordable prices.

The Art of Wine at Mood Beach

featuring wines from Tianna Negre winery and a presentation led by Patrick Paulen, sommelier at Tianna Negre and Jaime Cáceres, general manager and sommelier at Mood Beach.
