El atún rojo (Thunnus thynnus) no es el atún que se compra en latas, sino el que se ha puesto de moda y se consume en restaurantes de nuevas tendencias y principalmente en japoneses, en forma de sushi y sashimi. El atún rojo es fácil de reconocer por el color rojo de su carne; manjar escaso, y por ello, de precio muy elevado.
