Almond blossoms, wine & Mallorcan cuisine

What a trip! Yesterday, (11th Feb 07), seventeen of us took off by train to Manacor through the almond blossom countryside. This gourmet experience is a repeat of a successful trip taken last year to Can March to experience Miguel Gelabert’s modern Mallorcan cuisine and brother Tolo’s hospitality.

Before the meal, multi awarding winning winemaker from Manacor, Miguel Gelabert (no relation to the chef), presented three of his award winning wines, two reds and a white. They were white – Sa Vall and two reds – Gran Vinya Son Caules and Torrent Negre.

It was fascinating to learn the philosophy behind how and why, since 2000, 36 wine awards have been presented to a former chef (and restaurant owner) and self taught wine enthusiast from Manacor. His wines are worth checking out at their website Bodega Miguel Gelabert.
